Alcohol is a risk factor for six of the ten leading causes of death in Mexico, contributing to gender violence, road crashes and deadly diseases.
The bill #LeyNiñezSinComidaChatarra (Children Without Junk Food Law) would remove ultra-processed products and their advertising from school environments.
With support from Vital Strategies and the Global Health Advocacy Incubator, a coalition of Colombian organizations launched the second phase of a campaign, “Designed to Deceive, Made to Addict,” that exposes the manipulative strategies used by the tobacco, alcohol and ultra-processed food and beverage industries to target children through advertising. The campaign ran across TV, public transportation and digital platforms, and included a call to action inviting citizens to demand that Congress approve the bill #LeyNiñezSinComidaChatarra (Children Without Junk Food Law). Since 2024, the petition has gathered more than 125,600 signatures.
